A month since I quit, and I am, as one of my possible predictions in the last blog was, Jobless and at home. Adding to the many unemployed youth in Bhutan, I suppose.
Well actually I have many plans, and am, at the moment, just waiting and watching. Which sounds a lot like the things movie stars say when asked about their next project when they are actually jobless. Ah, maybe its the many hours of TV I have been putting into my daily schedule. I watched the entire season four (or was it five) of Heroes, and I decided that I like the X Men better.
I haven't been online much because for some reason the internet connection I got at home (EDGE) is not too good. I have been reading A LOT, almost made up for a year and a half of not reading too much, I should say. Right now I am reading 'The Maharaja's Box', based on the story of Punjab's last king who lost the most famous diamond in the world, Kohinoor, to Britain. Full of spies and intrigue, awesome book! The others have been a mixed bag, ranging from children's (I love Roald Dahl!!!) to well, I dont know, everything but self help books. I have started getting locked in the library again, and they have learned now to look in the inside room for me before locking up again.
I also make my first pencil sketch in over a year, a picture of the fifth King, from the portrait of him wearing the crown. It was good, if I say so myself. I also completed a sketch I had started in 2007 of Guru Nanak, the Sikh Guru. AND I painted the number plate for my sister's car, for sheer lack of something fun to do. It looks artisanal, maybe I should add an autograph!
I will probably appear in some publication or the other in April, and then this blog will contine to carry stuff about what I do at work instead of a description of how an unemployed person spends time at home. And since we are talking leisure, I am going to leave you with a list of my favourite books and movies, if anyone wants to pick up a good read/film.
For people who love poetry, Fugitive Pieces by Ann Micheals, Season of Rainbirds by Nadeem Alsam, The Black Book by Orhan Pamuk
For those who just want a wacky read, The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night Time by someone whose name I forgot, All JD Salinger books, Lemony Snicket, and Short Stories from Roald Dahl.
And to get inspired, The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho and The Fountainhead by Ayn Rand....and then all time favourites, Lord of the Rings and Classics. Oh and Hundred Years of Solitude, GG Marquez.
Movies..... I am going to go with just ones that have inspired me here, Forrest Gump, The Pursuit of Happyness, Dead Poets Society' which I just watched on TV again, it is such a great movie! Three Idiots, the Hindi Film, which carries a similar message, and The Greatest Game Ever Played. Oh and Holes, which inspires me in some way I cannot explain, and is one of the best stories ever.
